As Genesis Kai’s creator, Shiu holds a B.F.A in photography and minor in psychology from New York University with a family lineage grounded in film, entertainment, traditional cultural activism and art preservation that fueled her lifelong gravitation towards themes regarding ethnic identity and the splitting of the self. Her photography on this subject matter has notably been collected by Arendt & Medernach’s corporate photography collection since her juvenile years.
Shiu’s culmination of artistic practices which spans the realm of performing arts, experimental film, and photography with her interest in social psychology and cognitive neuroscience led to the inevitable birth and existence of her digital alter ego Genesis Kai not just as an interchangeable identity; but as a perpetual linked stream of consciousness that transcends the spatial relevancies of the physical and the digital, where time ebbs and flows against each other, and where creator and creation become one.
